Credentials error when opening linked sharepoint documents from others on mac

I receive a shared document, word in this case, and when I click on the file it opens the senders sharepoint space. I click on the file to open it, it sends me to https://uploadfile-doc.myportfolio.com, and asks me to login with email credentials that the sender sent to. I enter my office/sharepoint email and password, and it says "Invalid credentials, Please go back and login with the valid email credentials that this file was sent to."

I logged out of all outlook, and followed steps here.

Did not solve the issue. Any other options?

I have had issues with this before but have been able to fool it by going to sharepoint.com, logging in and then clicking the link, not this time.

Dear robert.g_DG,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

Based on your description, we understand that when you open the shared document, you receive a prompt message: "Invalid credentials, Please go back and login with the valid email credentials that this file was sent to."

I didn't seem to see the same thing in my tests. When I shared a document in a SharePoint library, I wasn't prompted if the account I entered was the same as the account of the person being shared:

Therefore, I would like to ask you about the following information first:

  • Whether other users have received similar prompts?
  • Whether a similar situation has occurred with other files that have been shared?
  • Could you please contact the owner of the file and ask him to share the screenshots of the sharing Settings with us, such as my previous screenshots.
  • Screenshot of the error message.

At the same time, if there is no similar phenomenon in other files, please ask the owner of the file to share the file again and check the result

Sincerely,

Tin | Microsoft Community Moderator
