Hi Team,

Good day. Hope you are doing well there and always safe. I would like to address this issue while one of my users working in SharePoint and using an Excel desktop client. She is not able to open a specific file. The other file in the same library is working well. Pls, advise me on how to solve this because this thing is killing me and I wanna get rid of this issue. What I did for troubleshooting is below:

  1. Delete windows tempfiles
  2. Update the office version
  3. Online Repair office
  4. Clear Browser History (all time)
  5. Open in another browser
  6. Clear officecache (I'm afraid to clear this office cache will impact another file that she is working with. Clear the e-FSD and FSD files only. Also, I have tried to move all of the officecache to another folder therefore Microsoft will recreate the cache files but the problem persists. The problem is we can open it in excel client but only open it as offline files, not online files. So, I have moved back the office cache to its original location)

Thank you and have a good day

    Dear Safik AIMunawar,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft community and sharing your troubleshoot steps.

I go through your description, since only one specific file could not be opened by the user. We think this behavior may caused by the file not the Excel client. So we recommend the following steps to you and you may check if they could provide you any help:

1.Since you could open it offline, save as a new file and rename the file, then upload it to the SharePoint to see if the user could open the file.

2.If other users could open the file, let them save the file and rename as a new file then upload to SharePoint.

3.Copy and paste the file content to a new file and upload the file to SharePoint.

Meanwhile, if we misunderstood your meaning, feel free to point out and we'll help you figure out.

Thanks for your cooperation, look forward to your reply.

    Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Sean,

Thanks for your response. As far as I got from your point, we have to replace the file either with upload a new one or renaming it. I haven't tried it yet, I will get back to you soon with the feedback. Thanks a lot and have a great weekend!

    Regards
