SharePoint Data Refresh Glitch

I run an Excel team and deal with 100s of spreadsheets that pull data in from various locations, mostly from SharePoint. Some users are experiencing a problem where, when they click data>refresh all, the new data is not pulling in OR it seems to revert back to a previous time point (e.g., a month of data is deleted). The problem appears to be at the user level and not the file level. That is, one user may experience the issue in a tracker but another team member has no problem. This is an issue with SharePoint and we have been working with Microsoft directly to identify solutions, but they have not been the most helpful. Has anybody had this issue before?

The most frustrating aspect of this is that no error message appears. When the data refresh doesn't work for some users, the only way to tell is when you check the data manually. It's an issue that comes and goes. Some days it works, some days it doesn't.

Dear Kade Halvorson

Good day.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand you're experiencing an issue on Data refresh in SharePoint. For the situation you encountered, we do understand the inconvenience it has made and apologize for it.

Please try the following steps to check if the issue can disappear:

  1. Please go to excel > data > connections > connections to see if there is your connection (its name should be same with your file name) in this window. If yes, please double click it and select definition tab to see if the detail information is correct.
  2. Besides, please try to change to a different browser or use InPrivate window to sign in SharePoint then select get data from it to check if the issue still persists.
  3. Please try to get Data from other resource, such as From File or From Database, then refresh data to check if the issue will happen again.
  4. We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, please kindly provide more information below to let us work further
  • May I know if all SharePoint files have this problem or just some specific files? Please try to get data from other SharePoint file in different site to check the result.
  • Please try to check if other office application documents have the same problem when refresh data, such as Word document. You can get data from SharePoint and select Word files to check.

Hope the suggestion can help you. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding into the Microsoft Community.

Best regards,

Stacey
