Excel Stock Data not refreshing

Hi,

I am using office 365 on a MacBook. My stock linked data type has stopped working all of a sudden. I am unable to refresh the data. It keeps asking me to go online whereas I am online and there is no issue with my internet connection. I have tried using both the insider build and the official one. I have also checked that in my privacy settings connections are enabled. It does not work even if I create a new workbook.

Please share any information that can help me.

Thanks,

S.G.

    Hi,

I tried removing ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.excel as you suggested. It did not solve my problem. However, I am now getting a new error "We need to fix your account. .... Sign out ... and sign in with subscription" I tried this as well. It finds the 365 license and lets me log in, but, when I reopen my workbook I hit the same issue again and it asks me to sign out and sign back in again. If I open the file in the web app then I get refresh error which says "We refreshed some of your data ..." I am not sure what is going on. Just a few days back everything was alright and now I have hit this really bad snag.

    Please help.

    S.G

I also have the same error: I am on Mac Excel 16.62

I am using the Microsoft 365 Subscription

I get this error message when I attempt to refresh the data using the stocks data type. I have over 100 stocks listed and this has been working for more than a year. This error only started about 1 week ago.

I have signed out and back in several times and the error remains.

I have attempted the suggestion to delete ADAL from keychain and reboot but the error still remains.

If I use the web app of excel it the data refresh works fine... it's only Excel for Mac giving me the issue.

If I use my wife's Mac account and Microsoft 365 account to open the same file on the same machine she does not have any error messages.

So the error is specific to my Mac account and my Microsoft 365 account (Note: we are sharing the subscription it's a Microsoft 365 Family subscription)

    Any other suggestions to try?

    Hi Sean,

None of the suggestions in the post has helped. I am forced to refresh the stock data using the web app and then work offline. Microsoft support told me that it is not their issue. Refinitiv asked me to use some paid app. I think there is a bug with the Mac version. But unless Microsoft acknowledges and debugs there is no hope of getting a resolution. I am really unhappy with the support. I will probably go with offline office once my subscription is up for renewal and drop the 365 subscription.

    Dear S.G.

    Thank you for the reply.

About the error message "We need to fix your account. .... Sign out ... and sign in with subscription", I also encountered this error when I tested on my side, I signed out Office and run the license removal tool on my side, then sign in back, the error disappears. You can try it out on your side to see the result.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn

    Dear S.G.

Sorry for the inconvenience the problem caused for you.

Based on your description, when you try to refresh the Stock in Excel for Mac, you will get an error. May I know that whether the error is "You need to be online to refresh your linked data types. Check your connection and try again."?

If yes, you can first check the proxy and firewall on your device. They may affect your connection. And you could also try to switch to another network environment, like hot spot, to see the result.

Since you mentioned the problem happens on the new created file as well, you can remove folder like ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.excel(you can press command +shift +G and enter the route to go the folder, move it to desktop, check if the issue is solved, if so, you could move it to trash, if not, restore it).

We look forward to your reply. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
