Hello,

I'd like to sort the yellow colored column based on the name of gray color column. Meaning that, I'd like to sort the yellow column exactly like gray one. Therefore, in yellow column I need South losuiana at first row, Houston, TX in the second row , Huntington-Tristate in third row , and so on.

How Can I sort the yellow column following the gray column where it doesn't follow alphabetical order nor the lowest to highest serves my purpose ?

Any idea what can I do to sort it in excel keeping in mind my goal of following gray column ?

If I am understanding the question correctly then you could just copy the data in the Gray column and Paste Special -> values over top of the data in the Yellow column.

But, I want that yellow column to change with data. So, therefore I need the sort to apply to the data too. The issue is I need the top 50 highest values in the gray column. But, the rest of the columns don't follow the order of the gray column.

So, I need to individually copy-paste each row of other columns(yellow and other columns) to keep all the states' information in the same row considering the top 50 of the gray clumn. Therefore, it's taking me hours to sort this information following the sortation of the gray column.

Therefore, if it is anyway available I could just sort the other column with the data following the top 50 of gray column then it'd be greatly helpful. And, that sortation is possible only by following the names of states in each row of gray column. Because gray column sortation was done on top 50 - which basis doesn't apply to other columns.

So in the gray column there are the name of states with a data. I want yellow column to follow the sortation of state in gray column. Therefore, I want yellow column to be sorted like the gray column with South Lousiana at the first postion ( with the data in yellow segment) , Houston in the second position , Huntington in 3rd. All of the rows in yellow column will follow the sortation of gray column. Also I want that sortation to apply to the rest of the yellow segment ( meaning it also applies to the data).

Therefore, my queston is there any sortation that allows one column to change following the name of another column. So that I can sort my yellow columns rows following the name of gray columns rows ?

    Dear initial_baker,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

You need to insert blank cells (helper column) next to the column (yellow colored column) and enter this formula =MATCH(A1,C:C,FALSE), and drag autofill handle down to apply this formula. The select your "yellow colored column" and "helper column"(both column) and click on Sort button and click on Custom sort to sort, see my image below for your reference:

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
