A user is having an issue with their excel. When something is edited, green lines similar to the image below shows up.

It slowly spreads throughout the spreadsheet until the whole workbook is filled with the green lines

Here is the following information I can gather:

  • Excel is currently on Version 2210 (Build 15726.20202 Click-to-Run
  • There is no Disable hardware graphics acceleration on File > Options > advanced section
  • Surface book is up to date
  • Currently on Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19045
  • Excel sheet is on an external monitor
  • There are no rules applied to the spreadsheet
  • After the cell has green line, the only way to remove the green line is to edit the cell and the green line disappears with the value

    Dear KennyD_1412

Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, please don't worry, we can work together to narrow down this behavior.

Since we can't reproduce the same behavior on our end, given this situation, to help you better and for the further troubleshooting, we  would like to collect more detailed information you're experiencing so that we can have a further investigation:

    1. May I know does all Excel workbooks have this behavior or only the specific one have? Please kindly create a new workbook and check the outcome.
    2. Does this behavior also happened in Excel web version in the browser?
    3. Does other users have the same behavior with this affected Excel workbook as this user?

We’re looking forward to your reply and will continue to help you all the time!

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Stacey | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Hello Stacy,

    Per your question:

    1. Other workbook has the same outcome when the workbook has been opened for an x amount of time and data are gradually changed.
    2. The user does not use the web version, only the desktop version.
    3. Only the user has this behavior. Other users are able to open it and not get the lines as they are gradually changed.

    Regards,

    Kenny

    Dear KennyD_1412

Thank you for your quick response, we also appreciate you spent your precious time doing the tests and updating the latest situation to us.

Per your update, it seems like this behavior only happened to the specific user, given this situation, please ask the user to try the following steps then see the outcome.

    1. Use online repair tool to check the behavior, you can refer to Repair an Office application (microsoft.com)
    2. Open office app in clean boot to see if the other programs caused the problem, you could refer to How to perform a clean boot in Windows (microsoft.com)
    3.  Run Excel in safe mode to see if other startups caused this behavior
    • Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R.
    • Once the Run window opens, type ‘ excel /safe ’ in the input box next to ‘Open’.
    • Press the Return key or click OK.
    • This will open Excel in Safe mode.

Besides, please kindly ask the user to share a screenshot of the Excel product information on his end to us, go to File>Account and share the picture to us.

If you still need any help, let me know, I will be happy to assist further. We will look forward to your reply. Stay safe and stay healthy.

    Sincerely,

    Stacey | Microsoft Community Moderator
