Fix scale levels for surface chart in Excel

Excel auto-scales the contour levels in its surface charts. However, unlike the other charts where one may give Excel new ranges and increments, I see no way to fix the number of contours and levels on a surface chart. Sometimes it gives me five levels, sometimes three, etc. Is there any way to fix this? If so, it is not apparent, but I hope someone in the forum can help.

Thx!

    Click anywhere in the chart.

On the Format tab of the ribbon, select Vertical (Value) Axis from the Chart Elements drop-down. Alternatively, click on the vertical axis.

Click Format Selection below the Chart Elements drop-down.

Expand Axis Option, then Axis Options.

You can set the Major unit here. A smaller value provides more levels, a larger value produces fewer levels.

Ahh... I see. In order for the contours to be frozen, one must freeze the vertical axis. Weird... but makes sense in a Microsoft kind of way. Thx! This solved my problem.
