Resizing Columns and Rows in Excel

Hello,

I am working on a spreadsheet where we are utilizing the Page Layout view. I have formatted this to be a standard 8.5" X 11" page. My method thus far has been as follows: Select a range of rows or columns, right click on them, click on "Row Height" or "Column Width," I then input exactly "0.5" and for some reason this does not set the size of the selected rows and columns to half an inch. It instead sets the dimension to 0.31 inches. This is incorrect.

Things I have tried so far:

Under File>Options>Advanced>The ruler units are in Inches.
Opened a new file and observed the exact same behavior.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. I will try anything.

Refer to the following Microsoft Link.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/change-the-column-width-and-row-height-72f5e3cc-994d-43e8-ae58-9774a0905f46#:~:text=If%20you%20are%20working%20in,from%20the%20Ruler%20Units%20list.

Note the text shaded in purple. You must use Page Layout View on the View Ribbon as per the below screen shot.

Select columns by the column Id's or the rows by the row Id's and Right click and select Column width or Row height and enter the required value in the displayed dialog.

    Hello Ossie,

That is exactly what I did and it did not function correctly. The rows and columns never resize to the number that I input. They always change to some smaller number.

    Best,
    Conner

What width/height are you setting and what is the smaller value that they change to? Is this smaller value displayed while still in the "Page layout" view?

Note that if you change back to "Normal" view and select column width or row height that the result is displayed as normal whereby the width is related to average characters and height is in points but that should not have changed the actual size of the cells as set in inches in "Page layout" view.

Also, is your screen resolution set to "Recommended"? I have not tested if screen resolution has an effect on your issue, but it might.

See following Microsoft link for setting Screen Resolution.
