Hello,

Any object, like an equation or a shape, that I insert into an excel spreadsheet disappears whenever I try to edit it or click on it. If I click outside of it, like on a cell, then it will appear again. How do I resolve this issue?

Hi

The first thing to check is what Suki suggested - make sure updates are installed. To find your version information, use the Menu Bar. Choose Excel > About Microsoft Excel. Once we know what version of Excel is installed, we can make more specific recommendations.

Hi Hxnnxh18,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you have inserted equation or shape into Excel, however, you cannot click them, those objects will disappear when you click on them, and if you click outside the objects, they will appear.

If my understanding is right, for the situation you encountered, we do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

And we have also tested it on our side with the latest version of Excel 16.60 and we cannot reproduce the same situation as yours.

Given this situation, we’d suggest you check if all files have the same problem, if all files have the same problem, we will give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

  1. Please check if you have the latest version of Excel 16.60, if not, you can update your Excel to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.
  2. You can set up Mac in safe mode according to this article: Start up in safe mode. This can help you troubleshoot whether it is caused by third-party software.
  3. We’d suggest you try to remove folder : ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Excel(press command +shift +G and enter the route to go the folder) to remove the whole folder of corrupt caches of the app and check the result.

Disclaimer: Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.

At the same time, to better understand your situation, could you also provide the information below?

  1. Could you provide the version of Excel? You can go to Excel > About Excel and provide the screenshot of it.
  2. May I know if the same problem occurs in the other Office applications? For example, Word. May I know if all Excel files have the same problem?
  3. Could you provide the version of Mac OS?

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

Best Regards,

Sukie
