Hi there!

It seems there is a bug or a sort of as the default page number for documents is always in Arabic rather than in Hindi.

All configurations are correct:

RTL

Context in language options

Currently, I discovered this way:

See video https://youtu.be/egZflseLdRU

Steps:

  1. Ensure the page number is RTL.
  2. Highlight the page number
  3. Right click and edit field
  4. Click Page
  5. Show field code 6. Replace whatever you see with this code PAGE HINDI
  6. Confirm your code. That's all. BUT before you confirm, make sure the RTL is activated (Shift-Ctrl)

Will this bug be fixed in further updates to Word?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

The F9 method will not work if the variable entered is HindiArabic . This method converts the numbers into ones that seem to be used in India (rather than the Hindi numerals used in Arabic). Although I solved the problem in the way I mentioned earlier, it is still an inconvenience, probably resulting from a bug. My older files had the Hindi page numbers which issues.

Surprisingly, the option works if I write PAGE HINDI without the asterisk and slanted line.

    Hi Mohammed-AR:

Based on your description, we understand that you want the page number showing in Hindi numeral style. And it seems you the field code.

Some of users solve the problem by the following method: page number not showing in Hindi numeral style - Microsoft Community

To get page numbers displayed in Hindi, you use the "Hindi Arabic" format switch. You can enter this through the Insert > Field dialog, or, direct in the document. To insert a new page number:

    • Press Ctrl+F9 - this will insert a field which shows as a pair of braces and the cursor will be positioned inside them.
    • Enter "Page \* HindiArabic" (without the quotes)
    • Press F9 to replace the field display with the field result.

If the above suggestions do not help you, could you please let us know the version of Word you are using so that we can understand your situation more specifically.

Thank you for your willingness to work with us to fix this issue.

    Hope this will help you.

    Tin
