A consideration before installation

I just purchased a subscription for 365. BEFORE I install this software, I need to know if 365 will seamlessly translate my Office 2010 documents into 365 or will I expect to encounter issues requiring research and intervention as I open documents. What intra-document issues have others encountered?

Hello E.S. E,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am a Microsoft 365 user just like you, I hope you are doing well?

Office 365 can open Office 2010 documents. Office 365 files are also compatible with Office 2010.

Please let me know if you need more assistance.

In Word, the so-called layout engine updated in Word 2013, which means that you may observe some differences in document appearance. However, this only applies if you update your documents to the most recent file format. You can leave the documents in compatibility mode, and you shouldn't see the documents in the way that you expect to see them.
