Numbered lists in sharepoint folder can't exceed 9 without losing the intended numbered format.

Hi,

As seen in the below photo of a folder I created. When try to organise my folders simply by numbers (1-10) the 10 doesn't land after the 9 but instead lands after the 1.

In get that it's operating off of the first figure values but is there a simple fix I'm missing to have my lists in a nice standard numerical order? ie like below.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.

    I understand that you have a concern on folders named with numbers and it is not in order when filtering A-Z. Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you by this behavior. I did the testing on my side and I can see the same behavior. Libraries will crawl the items by the first character and followed by the second. Since 1 and 10 starts at 1, 10 will be next to 1. If I will create a new folder 11, it will be next to 10.

    I would suggest you to raise a ticket Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Docs to check this behavior with our Support Engineer.

    Hi,

    Unfortunately I'm not an admin on the company system. I have extra control of a specific site but not the full web page. So I can't currently access the M365 admin link you sent. Please if someone else has solved this issue before, get in contact.

    Hi Jonah,

    Good day!

    Glad to hear back from you. Unfortunately this is currently expected behavior, the workaround is to use sort by Date modified or you can create a new column and select number.

    1. To go Library settings.
    2. Click on Create column.
    3. Type of column is Number.
    4. Go back to library settings > scroll down to bottom Views > click on the default view All Documents > Change the number Position of your created column to your preference as it will show in the library view.
    5. Edit the library item by clicking on Edit in grid an put the numbers on each items.
    6. Sort the column by smaller to bigger.

    This is workaround and will not change the current behavior. We would like to suggest you to submit a Feedback for this behavior.

    Hi Zee,

    Im positive that it would work but it seems in my add column setting number isn't an option.

    See the attached photos which show the available options when I click on add column. Thanks Zee. Starting to feel like sharepoint is out to get me ha ha!
