scanner display error

When I scan a document it scans but when I open the scanned document it goes to that encoding box and then will only display little boxes and some letters. How can I fix this?

    What format are you scanning to? Unless it is .doc or .docx or some other document format (including PDF if you have a newer version of Office), you won't be able to open in Word. If you are scanning to a graphic format, then it is just a picture of the document, which you can insert in Word as a picture but not open as a document.
