Excel 365 not listed in Default app list for .xlsx file

Hi, I'm having a problem with the default app setting. The problem is as follows

I use Windows 10, Office 365

I only have 1 version of Office

Excel is available in Default app setting, but only for .xls, .xll, .xlk, .xlm,... When I choose .xlsx file, it only allows choosing Google Chrome or looking for an app from the Microsoft store

Opening .xlsx file by browsing in Excel 365 app is okay

Powerpoint has the same problem, but Word is fine

Is there any way I can set Excel as default to open .xlsx and Powerpoint to open .pptx?

Thank you

    Hi Le,

    Appreciate your kind patience.

The next suggestion is to right-click on a .xlsx file>click Open with>check if there shows the Excel app as an option. If not, click More Apps and locate where the Excel app is installed.

    • If you are using 32-bit Office, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16.
    • If you are using 64-bit Office, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

Run a repair which will re-set associations

Restart the PC, once fully loaded, repair Office,> Apps & Features>Select Office your version>Modify /Repair, once the repair completes re-test

    Hi,

    Good day.

If the issue persists after you tried Repair an Office application (microsoft.com) as Palcouk suggested, feel free to share a screenshot in Windows> Apps & Features to confirm the Office package details and we'd like to provide further support.

    Hello Le,

Thanks for writing back and updating us.

As per the updates, we understand repairing the Office apps doesn't resolve the problem but I would like double-confirm whether you performed Online Repair or Quick Repair? If it's Quick Repair, I suggest you try the Online Repair and check the outcome.

If the same problem persists, please uninstall the Office apps completely using the Uninstall tool and re-install the Office apps to check the result. Reference: Uninstall Office from a PC (microsoft.com) (Option 2)
