Nesting Auto-Generated Folders

There are several auto-generated folders in my OneDrive tying back to various apps (i.e., Microsoft Teams Chat Files, Recordings, Whiteboards, etc.) that I had previously nested in another folder. Some of the folders appear to be updating just fine in their new location, while others have ceased updating and new folders with the same names are re-generated in the top level folder.

For example, I moved two folders - Microsoft Teams Chat Files and Recordings - from My Files into a folder I titled App Files:

  • OneDrive > My Files > App Files > Microsoft Teams Chat Files
  • OneDrive > My Files > App Files > Recordings

Since the nesting, the Recordings folder has been updating with my most recent Teams meeting recordings just fine. The Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder has not updated and a "replacement" folder was generated in My Files:

  • OneDrive > My Files > App Files > Microsoft Teams Chat Files (no longer updating)
  • OneDrive > My Files > Microsoft Teams Chat Files ("replacement" folder)

Is there a way to nest these folders without creating this type of sprawl?

    Dear Bayver,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, please let us cooperate and please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Based on my test result, it seems I can meet the same behaviour as like you described above. When I move the Microsoft Teams Chat Files and Recordings to another folder and the Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder not updated to existing folder, it will another separate folder.

Here is my test screenshot for your reference:

I did research and I found the one possible reason is when you share the files to other users in the Microsoft Teams via Private chat, the files are stored in your OneDrive account with folder name “Microsoft Teams Chat Files” which creates a shared link so that user whom you shared file with are able to access it.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
