Changing a Bookmark Range

I'm working on a huge document that has a lot of bookmarks with unbounded range; i.e., the bookmark refers to the sections of interest and everything below it. I want the bookmarks to refer to a location/section only. How can I manipulate the bookmark range without changing the existing bookmark names and cross references?

Select the text range that you want the bookmark to enclose. On the Insert tab, click Bookmark in the Links group. In the dialog box, choose the name of an existing bookmark and click Add. This will re-add the bookmark for the selected text range.
