Does Moving Folders Changes the Sync Status?

Anonymous

I have all my OneDrive files and folders on demand only and they all originally displayed the online only clear cloud icon.

When I moved folders in OneDrive online using the browser, some folders and some files change to "On This Device" and displayed the green checkmark when I view OneDrive using the File Explorer.

Why is that? Is there a synchronization delay? Do I need to do anything to resync? Do I need to unlink the PC when I do this?

Please advise.

THANKS!!

Allan

Yeah, last night OneDrive started processing thousands of changes again but it did finally finish. When this happens changes are not synced until the processing finishes.

It might be possible that the folder you are moving the files to is marked "Always keep on this device" and the files within will be downloaded.

If you are moving them online, then they shouldn't be synced to the desktop and should retain the default sync setting.

There is a sync delay, especially if you moved a lot of files. But it shouldn't be a delay of more than maybe an hour (although OneDrive can be slow to sync, so it could be longer).

the files were not moved in file explorer but on onedrive in browser. also I am moving very large folders. I trust that it isn't going to download 100s of GB each time I move a folder!!!

    Hello Adarrow2

It's a sync delay - when you move them in File Explorer, it download the file. They should go back to online-only after the move, but it might take a day or two.
