Evernote - OneNote data migration tool problems

Given the Evernote to OneNote data migration tool is offline (as of September 2022), is there any way to migrate new data into OneNote from Evernote?

I have the a large database downloaded in both Evernote XML file (. enex) or as HTML files (. html) formats. Yet, no way to import it..

Thanks

John

So Microsoft has, by retiring the Evernote-to-OneNote import tool, and not providing an alternative, made it impossible to migrate from Evernote to Onenote? There's no workaround at all? I wish I could say I'm surprised that Microsoft cares so little about its customers (and about the success of its own products!), but I'm not.

    Dear John,

As the tool has been retired, I'm afraid that there may be no way doing that. I kindly suggest you use the built-in Feedback option in OneNote to report this to our product developers as soon as possible so that they can be aware of the situation for further investigation.

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

Found a solution. Pros: Works pretty well. Cons: Had to do a trial of Win365 virtual machine on my Mac to implement. If you have a Win computer you can skip that part.

    1. Install Win365 on Mac. You'll need Microsoft Remote Desktop. Note that i'm the admin of our Office365 account so was able to get some MS help setting that up. It wasn't intuitive, but after set up the virtual machine worked perfectly.
    2. You have two options for your Evernote notes export:
    3. You can download Evernote Legacy on the Win365 machine or, you can export directly from Mac and if you have sufficient cloud storage, upload to cloud on Mac and download to Win365 machine. I did the latter. (and on one or two test files, the former)
    4. Export your notebooks in .enex format from Evernote. Store locally on the Win365 machine.
    5. Once you have the .enex files somewhere on the win365 machine, go to https://www.onenotegem.com/downloads/b/NoteBatch2021.zip and download the Gem app. I think you can test out three files free. The Win version is $28. The Mac version is $18 BUT is limited to 500 notes / notebook and cannot do a batch import.
    6. Install the onenotebatch anywhere on the virtual machine. Note that the previous version that I originally used returned errors on some notebooks. James Linton (developer) sent me this newer version this morning and it works like a charm.
    7. Note also that the license doesn’t come immediately, so good to email him or Skype him for license once you have paid.
    8. Follow the instructions on line to choose your .enex files, choose Import, and which notebook you will import into. The Gem site is a little bare but you can usually figure it out. Here’s another page for that app support/directions: https://www.onenotegem.com/m/view.php?aid=638
    9. Note that you will also need to download OneNote WIN onto the virtual machine and login with your work or personal credentials. You can have both types of notebooks. You should run OneNote first before you run the Gem application.
    10. You can import all your notebooks at once. If it works with the newer app you’ll see “success” over to the right.
    11. Go to OneNote Win and make sure your notebooks are synchronized. Takes a while.
    12. Once they are synchronized open up OneNote web, make sure content is there, then open up OneNote Mac and let it synchronize.
    13. I had 26 gb of notes, 30 notebooks, and once I figured it all out (hours!!) worked like a charm.
    14. Hopefully, this solution works for you Mac users too. (Or Windows users without the awkward Win365 machine)

    Regards

    Jeff

    PS: Excuse typos etc.

Dear Bernd: Thanks so much for the link to Stefan's tool I was pretty optimistic. Located all the files etc.

However, when i tried Stefans tool on a Mac Windows 365 virtual machine...the tool works, but all i get as a result is some jpgs, no text, even if the original single note was all text.

Any other ideas for Mac users or even for Windows users?

    Kind regards,

    Jeff

PS: Spoke with the MS OneNote people. They apparently are aware of the issue; no workaround though the tech support person was kind enough to help me through using Windows 365 as well as Stefan's tool (indirectly, not officially). He also advised that OneNote Mac has significantly less functionality than OneNote web or OneNote windows.
