SharePoint Page checked out by another user but unpublished changes cannot be discarded

I am currently trying to edit a SharePoint homepage, however edits cannot be made because it is checked out by another [user].

When I click the "Discard changes" button (screenshot below), nothing happens. I am the site owner and have the correct permissions to discard changes.

I have tried removing all of this user's permissions from the site, however that did not check the page back in. Is there some other way to reset the site to a previous version?

    Hello,

Greetings for the day! I’m an, Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. I'm glad to help you regarding the issue with SharePoint.

Could you please try following workaround in below link? https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/sharepoint-the-file-is-currently-checked-out-or/91364b48-126c-4fc8-bb27-2d251490ec9c

    a. Go to Library Settings>Manage files which have no checked in versions under Permissions and Management>check if the file is there>If yes, take ownership of it and then try to check it in. b. Check if the file is shared and other users in your company open it and don’t close it. If yes, let them close it and re-sign into the site library to do a test. c. Do the following to do a test again.

    1. Sign out of all accounts in the Office 2016 applications and close them. 2. Navigate to Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage Windows Credentials under Credential Manager>remove all MicrosoftOffice 16_Data:ADAL:xxx. 3. Go to Control Panel>Programs>right-click the Office 2016 applications’ icon>Repair. 4. Clear IE cache via Tools>Safety>deleting browser history and reset IE (do the similar steps in other browsers). 5. Restart the computers. 6. Re-sign into the OneNote 2016 application.

    d. Use another fresh browser to see if you can delete the file.

If you have permission, you can check a file back in that was checked out by someone else. Follow the procedure above under the heading "Check in files" in below link. https://support.microsoft.com/office/7e2c12a9-a874-4393-9511-1378a700f6de

When you check in the file, you'll get a warning dialog that it is checked out to another person. Select OK if you want to override the other person's checkout.

Hope this information would be useful to you. Please feel free to get back if you need any additional info.

Thank you. The site was initially hidden from my view in site contents but I was able to find it and check it out and back in. This resolved the problem.
