Excel Table: Show/Hide Columns vs. Sort,Filter&Arrange Columns

As of now, we can only sort records based on an individual column by clicking the sort records button found on the right side of each column name? Is it possible to implement in the future that an excel table has a "columns list" button to "select from, sort (in the image the columns are sorted from A to Z like 'Actual Sales' then 'Customer ID'....'Ship Mode') and arrange" the columns? If that provision for filtering column is there [for example, it can be a drop-down list at the top left corner of the first header of the table which can be enabled when hovered] to select from, it is possible to see or view the list of all columns of the table available to choose from even if the selected columns are hidden[N.B. In the image, the checkboxes should have been selected but by mistake, those remained unchecked]. And this would also be helpful to view all the columns' names without scrolling all the way to the right side of the screen until you view the last column when the table consists of numerous numbers of columns.

Thanks and Best Regards

    Hi ,

I'm Mukesh and I will be happy to help you out with your question.

This is my design that you cannot see the filter that is hidden. You can't remove filters from individual columns. Filters are either on for an entire range, or off. If you don't want someone to filter a particular column, you can consider hiding it.

If you want to completely remove filters, go to the Data tab and click the Filter button, or use the keyboard shortcut Alt+D+F+F.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions please let me know and I will be glad to help you out.

    Hello, Rashedul!

Thanks for reaching out here. You seem to have a good understanding of how MS Excel columns work.

Is there any assistance you need or query that you have, specifically?

    Alright, Rash!

    Thanks for the elaborate details.

Just to throw in as many options as I can towards addressing your query, consider the two suggestions below:

    1. To insert a single column;

    • Right-click the whole column to the right of where you want to add the new column, and then select Insert Columns.
    • To insert multiple columns: Select the same number of columns to the right of where you want to add new ones. Right-click the selection, and then select Insert Columns

    1. To Create a List Based on Spreadsheet

NOTE: When creating a Microsoft list, you can save time by importing an existing Excel spreadsheet.
This method converts the table headings to columns in the list, and the rest of the data is imported as list items.
Importing a spreadsheet is also a way to create a list without the default Title column.

    • The types of columns that are created for a list are based on the kinds of data that are in the columns of the spreadsheet. For example, a column in the spreadsheet that contains dates will typically be a date column in the SharePoint list

    I hope you understand.

    Regards,
    Albert

    Hi,

I am not sure of whether one can sort the columns or not but one can arrange columns, see them in a list and show chosen columns only. See the Blog article on my website here. See only the last portion of the article there and download the file.
