I am an O365 business user and have always pasted Microsoft drawing objects (text boxes, shapes etc) from PowerPoint and Excel into Visio.

Following a recent update, whenever I try to paste into Visio it instantly crashes. Please help!

The version I am using is: Microsoft® Visio® Plan 2 MSO (16.0.14326.20850) 32-bit

Hello, I am having the same problem, and was able to paste after I Disable Enhanced Metafile optimization. However, everything is coming into Visio as one image, and I can not edit the individual shapes.

    HI Clark, Waqas,

Thanks for your help so far.

I tried the Disable Enhanced Metafile optimization fix and this worked, though I would prefer a permanent fix that does not require users to do anything. Could disabling this have negative consequences?

As far as I know, every device running 16.0.14326.20850 is affected by the issue.

My company IT support say that the version of Visio we're running is the latest version. It is the same version as the version of O365 we're running and was updated at the end of March - so there was no update available. They reinstalled Visio for me, which reverted back to an earlier version (16.0.13801.20442) and that fixed the issue without needing to disable the EMF optimization - so I assume that something in the March update caused this functionality to break.

Is it likely that the next release will fix this?

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Hi T-Lowe,

Thanks for the updates, it seems that the issue happens on many devices in your organization. May I know does the issue happen on all devices with Visio version MSO (16.0.14326.20850) 32-bit?

To fix the issue, I would suggest you Go to File - Options - Advanced in Visio, and checking out the "Disable Enhanced Metafile optimization" box to disable this option, under Display.

Please feel free to post back after you try suggestions from Waqas, additionally, may I know if there are any devices are not affected by the issue? If so, which version of Office are installed on those devices?

    Best Regards,

    Clark

Hi Waqas. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

It happens to all Visio documents, new and old. I had a number of Visio files containing objects originally pasted from PowerPoint (they were EMF images I had ungrouped in PPT to convert into drawing objects, then pasted into Visio) which will no longer open - when I try to open them I get an error message saying Visio has stopped working.

When I try pasting the same images from PowerPoint into a new Visio document I get the same error. The same thing happens when I try to paste objects from Excel into Visio.

Everyone in my organisation is now experiencing the same issue, which happens to follow an Office update a week ago.

I will test your suggestions tomorrow and reply afterwards.

    Regards.

    Tom

    Hi T-Lowe,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

May I know does issue happened do specific Visio document? If the issue happens to all Visio files including a new created one, the issue is more related to the Office app itself or your computer environment. You can first try suggestions below to see the result:

    1. Make sure you’ve updated Visio to the latest version that some issues can be resolved with such method.
    2. Please try please go to File > Options > Add-ins, set Manage COM add-ins, click GO. In the add-ins list, uncheck to disable all add-ins, then restart Visio to check the outcomes.
    3. If still can’t work, please try to reinstall Visio and check if there is any difference.

Meanwhile, could you please confirm does other users in your organization meet same behaviour, it will help for us to narrow down your issue.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best regards

    Waqas Muhammad
