Error message when opening shared Excel files

HI

I have two files I have been sharing for several years with about 13 people. Today both of those files are giving people the following message. Even when I access One Drive via the web, I get the same message. However, when I access One Drive file from an excel pinned link on my laptop, I can open the file. Assistance would be appreciated.

When those who have the shared link try to open, they get a different message as below. It has no opportunity to open in desktop app.

Microsoft 365 and Office | OneDrive | Other | Windows

    Hello Debrahicks1,

Thank you for coming to the forum.

Is the one you access from your desktop an offline file located locally on your desktop?

If it is we can try two things, do a version history of this file and try to see if it works on a known day. What I mean is, if the file worked yesterday and the error happened today check the version of yesterday. To do this, while in onedrive, right-click on the file and select version history

If that does not clear this out, then upload the version on your device and share it again.

    I await a kind reply

    Kind regards Fuad

Faud I can't thank you enough for the solution as well as being so prompt; it worked. Next time I will reach out sooner rather than frustrating myself. Also best to go to the experts right away :) A big thanks again and again.!
