Dear ThapaA,
Good day.
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
According to your description, you get the error message when creating a SharePoint list from Excel. It looks like you create the SharePoint list via New>List>From Excel.
If my understanding of the scenario is right, I also did a test from my side, I cannot reproduce the issue.
Regarding the error message, we found other users who encountered the similar issue shared that the error may occur when there are double quotes in column headers.
To check that, you may follow steps below:
In the Excel file, you may try to copy the column headers out to Notepad and check if you can find any double quotes, if yes, delete the double quotes then paste the name back into Excel, save the Excel file and try to create SharePoint list from the Excel file again.
And we also want to share following suggestions. Hope they can help you.
1.Some users also shared that the issue could be caused by there were several CR (carriage returns) within some of column heading cells. In Excel if you create a multiple-line header by using the ALT+ENTER, then Excel keeps the text together by enclosing it in quotes "". After removing the CR, they can create the SharePoint list.
- And we suggest you ensure none of your columns have brackets "()" in the column name.
If issue still happens, we do understand the frustration and feel very sorry about it. We'd like to help you do further troubleshooting. Could you confirm information below? We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial reply may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down the situation.
1.Does the issue happen when you use a specific Excel file to create SharePoint list? If you try a different Excel file, does it work?
2.Do you create SharePoint list from New>List>From Excel? Did this way work before?
3.Does the issue appear in a specific SharePoint site? If you try a different site, does same issue still happen?
Thanks your patience and understanding. Hope you keep safe and healthy always!
Sincerely,
