Word Documents changed save type

I was on my windows laptop when I tried to open my files tab, but it wouldn't load and I couldn't see anything. I then decided to shut down my laptop to try and fix the issue. When I turned my laptop back on again when I returned to my files tab all of my word documents had been changed to trio office. When I open the documents the format is completely different, and I can see the saved type is under Microsoft Word 2007-19 I believe, but the format is clearly of a very old Microsoft word. When I decided to shut down again to try and resolve, I had a to select 'apply new browsing format' option, as if I was setting the laptop up for the first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ned,

I think some other software is hijacking your Word files. Trio Office is a third party program not associated with Microsoft. You can search for it by name. Try uninstalling it.

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. My name is Charles and I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have authored help articles on the Microsoft site.

Try doing a quick repair of Office.

That should reset your file associations.

    I hope this information helps.
