Hyperlinks work with mouse click but not touch screen

I'm trying to create a powerpoint template where the presenter (by use of a touch screen overlay) can choose random pictures at will, advance via hyperlink to the associated slide, then return to the main selection screen, via hyperlink.

When I go into SlideShow mode (browsing as an individual because some slides are timed to advance but most are not), the hyperlinks work properly when I click the graphics with my computer mouse. When I attempt to do the same thing via a tv touch screen overlay, the slideshow loses all hyperlink activity and becomes a "next slide" slideshow, advancing from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 instead of the potential 1 to 2 to 16 to 2 to 19 to 2 to 5 to 2 to 3 to 2, etc.

However... a hyperlink DOES work with the touch screen overlay if I start the slideshow on that exact slide. And that is the only hyperlink that will work. Returning to that slide within the same slideshow renders it inactive again.

Can provide as many details as needed if this doesn't make sense.

Thank you!

    Dear Sam Focer

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, it seems that in SlideShow mode, the hyperlinks work with mouse click but not touch screen, but if start the slide show, the hyperlink can work well with the touch screen overlay.

If my understanding is correct, please go to PowerPoint web version in the browser to check if the same behavior will happen again.

If this behavior didn't happen in PowerPoint for web, maybe this problem is related to the PowerPoint desktop app. Thus, we would like you to check whether the behavior is related to your user profile. In this situation, we suggest you creating a new user profile on Mac on your Mac and see if any improvement. It is worth trying because it will help you narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile.

Looking forward to your reply, please notice the above information is vital for us to further assist you, any updates please feel free to post back.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

Before trying anything that you've suggested, I attempted a few more things before stopping for the night. Here's what I found:

    • I attempted the Mouse Over feature. It did not work. The touch screen was still reading as a "click," thus advancing the slide. - Did not work.

    • I shut off all slide advances both "by mouse click" and "after X seconds," in an attempt to make the hyperlinks the sole focus and only thing that could advance the slide. - Worked, sometimes, but worked better than anything else attempted. I still haven't figured out what the overlay is sensing and how it's relaying it into the program in order to know the timing for reading the hyperlink clickability, but as I said, this is the closest thing I've gotten to the show working as intended.

••• I noticed when I went to the hyperlinked graphic with the computer mouse that it turned from an arrow pointer to a hand pointer, indicating there was a special link/feature to click on that graphic versus a regular "click anywhere to advance to the next slide" feature. This is what I'm assuming the touch screen portion is not reading and why it can't pick up on the hyperlink.

It would be very helpful if you install updates, then test again. If the problem persists, please reply with the version of PowerPoint that you are using. Thanks.

    INSTALL UPDATES:

How to check your version of Office:

If you can open your Office application go to the application menu. For example, in Microsoft Word, go to the Word menu. Then choose About Word. The resulting dialog tells you which version you have.

If you can’t open your Office application, in Finder, go to the Applications folder. Right-click on the application and choose Get Info from the menu.

If your version of Office is currently 14.anything or lower, your software will not run in Mac OS Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey or Ventura. You might consider using LibreOfficeto replace Microsoft Office. LibreOfficeis a free, somewhat compatible desktop suite. Microsoft has a free, on-line version of Microsoft Office at OneDrive.com, which is also a good substitute for users of older versions of Mac OS if you don’t mind the hassle of having to use the web.

If your version of Office is currently 15.anything or 16.anything, follow these instructions to install Microsoft Office updates:

Download a copy of the current version of AutoUpdate from this link, install and then run AutoUpdate to bring your installation to current update level, then restart your Mac. If the updater does not open automatically after download, double-click the downloaded .pkg file. Click this link to download the updater. The update is free.
