Dear Microsoft.

I wanted to extend my subscription of Microsoft 365. Your system would not accept my Master Card released in Russia. I called you help center. They indirectly ask if I have debit or credit cards released in other countries. My answer was negative.

For me few point sounded illogical- (1) The invoice was in Russia rubles so why should I posses debit or credit cards released in other countries (2) If you do not accept Russian debit/ credit cards why did you invoice me in Russian Rubles (3) If anyways Russian debit/credit cards are not accepted by you should have sent a notice that you are discontinuing your service in Russia.

Any commercial organisation should be apolitical. As your loyal user I feel that my rights have been violated and insulted. I think being a loyal used I deserve an explanation, and in case it doesn't follow, then good bye Microsoft you have insulted millions of Russians.

    Where are you located? In Russia/Europe?

    .

    You may have heard of that little thing called a war in Ukraine, also called a "special military action". The result is that many governments have issued sanctions against Russia, including blocking their banks and credit cards. And hundreds of companies have simply stopped doing business with Russia / Russians for now. I have not heard what position MS has taken.

    Yes in the "capitalist" system, businesses are all about making money, in any way they can. M$ is more than happy to be aggressively money grubbing in most situations. This is one they have no control over.

    MS can't accept your Russian credit card because they cannot collect the money through the banks and credit system. The invoice was issued by their accounting computer. It definitely is apolitical, it is just a stupid computer. Someone forgot to get the computer up to speed on the war.

    Unless your name is Putin, the war is not under your control. But you are one of many people who are being affected by the war. Could be worse than not being able to use your credit card. Your home and country could be blowing up around your ears.

    There may be a workaround. If you can buy a "Product Key Card" in an electronics store, you can submit the product key to extend your subscription. Just make sure the key is for your geographic region otherwise it won't work.
