    Dear Asle Kvestad,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, you want to know if we can use one language for the general program such as menu and another/different language for the formulas in Excel.

If my understanding is right and based on my test result it seems that I’m afraid Excel app doesn’t have such option (I checked the option under File -> Options -> Languages) to only change language for formulas in Excel.

Installing the English language pack and setting the Office interface language is the only way to be able to enter and edit formulas using the English-language version of the worksheet functions.

However, after search a lot and my different test, if you want to Translate formula and we can manually copy/pate formula in a Translate feature box.

Regarding to your concern, “to have one language for the general program and a different for the formulas” to improve the Excel view and this type of change has come up, you brought a brilliant point. We do understand your feeling that it would be very convenient if there an option we can only change language for formulas in Excel. As we listen to all feedback and consider them for additional feature/future versions of our products, and we requested you send/provide feedback via Excel app (for your reference: How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office?) or via Microsoft Excel feedback portal.  Your feedback helps us know which features are most important to you.

We can expect this feature to be used in the future in Microsoft Excel.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Hi!

    Thank you for your help.

Who are in charge of connecting the language in formulas to the language in the program?

I live in Norway, here we have two written languages (bokmal and nynorsk). When I choose bokmal I get the Norwegian (bokmal) formulas as well, but when I choose nynorsk I get the English formulas. Bokmal and nynorsk are not that different. All pupils in school learn both. The “nynorsk-people” should have the option to choose Norwegian formulas and nynorsk layout in the menus.

    Best regards Asle

    Hi Asle Kvestad,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing.

And I appreciate your kind words.

As Excel stores the formulas always in install Office UI language inside the files, regardless of the locale language. Can you check your setting the Office UI language via go to the File tab, and choose Options, and then Language and check your installed /selected default Office display language and proofing.

If the Excel language package is set as Norwegian, Excel only can recognize the functions which is written in Norwegian.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

Sorry, it appears there is nothing we can do.

    .

This would be a long standing issue that M$ is aware of but is too cheap to fix.

    .

You can submit a feedback to MS, "just in case" they are not aware of it. But even if they choose to work on it the fix would be a long time coming. Don't hold your breath waiting for it ...

    .

    Feedback Hub

The “Answers” forum / community is “staffed” mostly by users like yourself, unpaid volunteers. This forum is intended more for “How to do something in application A” type questions. We sometimes can provide work-arounds for problems, but we can’t do anything about underlying problem. If the forum can’t solve your question you need to talk directly to MS, you need to submit a “Feedback” to MS.
    .

For a couple of years now MS has had a "feedback" process that allows users submit bug reports / problems, suggestions and new feature requests directly to MS developers and managers. You can submit feedbacks from within many MS apps, or you can use the Win10 “Feedback Hub” app. This article describes the different ways you can submit Feedback to MS:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/microsoft-feedback-process/6f850368-8c86-481d-a207-d95b265c4be4
    .

There is also a new web based “Feedback Portal” in development. It is still labelled “Preview”. It provides functionality similar to the feedback hub. Access to feedbacks submitted in 34+ categories.
    https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/
    .

I was talking to an Excel MS developer whose job does include monitor feedback submissions.  He says that the more specific you are about the problem, how to recreate it, what you see, what you expect to see, screen captures etc , the more likely they are to act on it, and maybe even try to contact you.
    .

Depending on which of the contact channels you use, you sometimes have a (hidden) option to include contact info (your email). Like this forum, their system automagically strips out emails included in the feedback. So if you want to embed your email in the feedback, like in this forum, break it up ie

.           Your  dot  name At email dot com

As users we are unpaid quality control testers, we identify bugs, they pick which feedbacks they will work on, and when they will release them, for testing by Insiders and to general public.
    .

But don't "expect" anything like feedback about your feedback back from MS. The most you can expect is to see that MS has updated the feedback “Status”

MS Status “feedback” to user in Win10 Feedback Hub.Note: The image above also includes the button to click to get a “Share” link to this specific feedback.
Feedback to MS is still mostly, but no longer totally, a black hole sucking in information without any return

    .

MS will make fixes and changes on their own schedule.
    .

They will not provide much, if any, advance notice of what they are working on and/or when it will be released.
    .

Hint : get a “share” link to your feedback (may take a couple of minutes to process the initial submission of the feedback) and post the link back to this question. That way if someone finds this question they will be able to link directly to your feedback so they can vote for it and add their comments. The more feedback on a subject, the more likely it is to be acted on.
    .
Keeping a copy of the link also makes it eaier for you to find it again in the future Having

    i.e.

"Feedback" suggesting that they create a "Support / Support" category in the feedback app to collect complaints about poor service in MS Support: https://aka.ms/AAdyeq0

The key takeaway in this article was “About two hours after Needham reported the issue, Google notified users on its support page that it was investigating the issue.” And they fixed the problem before the magazine was able to confirm the problem existed.
