I have this csv file generated from the application separated by comma delimiter . The data of column "Notes" is usually high and listed in new line ( should be limited inside that column ) . However , these notes are created in new row when opening in excel but are working fine in other spreadsheet tool like google spreadsheet . Can anyone help me with this ?

Data has header

Test ID,First Name,Last Name,Test Candidate ID,Added By, Title, Email,Depart,Tags,Source,Notes,Status-List,Added On

1234,Test,Tester-Men,C-1111,Support Tech, Relations and Marketing Intern,******@gmail.com,,TEST: TEST,"Test-BestCareer,First:This is note

Second Note : This is -2. test

Third : This is -3. test",G1-New,11/30/2020

I think I misunderstood you, you open the file in Excel, right? (Using File \ Open or Double-Click inside Windows-Explorer).

It is correct that this did not work as you expect, due to compatibility issues... Excel is downward compatible to ancient times.

There is a "new" way (since 10 years), import the CSV using Power Query and you get the result you want.

If you post CSV data as text here makes no sense, because the forum editor insert line breaks and so it is obvious that we get more than one line as result.

    Zip your CSV file

Upload your file on an online file hoster of your choice and post the download link here.

Thank you @George for your input here .

To make it more clear I am sharing the screenshot of excel and google spreadsheets where the same csv are opened differently. My expectation is it should work like google spreadsheet.

    In google spreadsheet

    ImageIn excel

ImageI used comma delimiter to separate the data when the wizard pop up in the excel and also tried every other option but did not work .

    CSV data :

    csv.zip

I hope this make it more sense about my issue .Thank you .

    Hi Nitesh,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, when you open the CSV file in Excel, it doesn't display well. If not, please point it out and let me know. If so, to better understand the situation, please provide full screenshots when you open it in Excel and when you open it in other applications. If the file contains private data, please replace it with test data.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator
