Using Paste Link to insert an Excel chart into a Word document no longer works

For more than 20 years, I've used Paste Link to insert charts made in Excel into a Word document. (I use the bitmap option because I want the font size to change with the chart size.) I've updated an existing document 2-4 times a year over that period. Today, when I tried to update a document saved last November, I encountered two problems. First, Update Link no longer works. If I update the chart in Excel with new data, then right-click on the chart in Word and choose Update Link, nothing happens. Second, when I try to delete the chart I inserted, nothing happens. It just stays there. I spent two hours on the phone with a Microsoft technician, and he couldn't fix the problem.

Apparently, an update in Word since last November has messed up the Paste Link feature. I'm sure the problem is with Word, not Excel, because the links between my Excel charts and my PowerPoint files still work.

If you send me a copy of the Word document and the Excel workbook, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.
