Unable to edit a shared document

I am having difficulty with my school Microsoft account.

I am in a group project and have been unable to edit the document that was shared.

Additionally, a group chat has been created in Teams, where I can post; however, there is an attached OneNote that I am not able to access. Please help! I feel terrible I haven't been able to contribute to this project. Is the problem on my end, or the admin's?

Thanks so much, Jocelyn

    Dear Jocelyn,

    Thank you for the reply.

About the screenshot you provided, I tested it on my side, and it seems that your friend shared this document with you with "Can view" permission, not "Can edit" permission. You can check the below image of my test result:

Share with "Can edit" permission, when another user opens the document, he will see:

Share with "Can view" permission, when another user opens the document, he will see:

Given this situation, based on my test result, you may need to contact your friend to share the document again with "Can edit" permission to you.

The document was shared with me to my One Drive. When I open it on my browser, I can highlight it like a PDF, but I cannot co work on it like everyone else. This is what the document loks like when opened.

    Dear Jocelyn,

Good day! Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Based on your description, you can't edit a shared document. To help you better, could you please provide more information for me?

    1. May I confirm whether your friend sent a guest link of the document to you?
    2. Did you get any error message when opening the document?
    3. Did you open the document from browser, Office application, or Teams?
    4. Could you please provide a full screenshot when you open the document?

    Appreciate your cooperation in advance.

    Sincerely,
