Joseph Lamendola, sorry for the inconvenience, there are several posts in the Community where other ipad users also experienced similar issues using external keyboard with OneNote.

For some reason, when I hit the space bar, it puts it into search mode
Thank you Raymond. I was doing that successfully and suddenly it would not allow me to space and then it was jumping all over the page. Not sure why, but I’ll try again.

Yes, you can. Once you have connected the external keyboard to your ipad, you can use it in taking notes on OneNote.
