Microsoft Word cannot display embedded font

Hi,

I embedded a font called Beth Ellen from Google Fonts ( https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Beth+Ellen ) in my Microsoft Word document. This document is saved to Google Drive, and when I open it in Google Docs, it displays the font perfectly. However, when I download the document and open it in Microsoft Word, the font is not displayed properly, instead appearing as a plain font resembling Calibri. However, when I place my cursor in the text, the font editor says that the font is Beth Ellen, even though the displayed font does not resemble what Beth Ellen text is supposed to look like.

I have tried to open this document in two different laptops with different versions of Microsoft Word listed below, but with the same result.

  • Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2301 Build 16.0.16026.20002) 64-bit
  • Microsoft® Word 2019 MSO (Version 2301 Build 16.0.16026.20002) 64-bit

I have also tried this on my Android Word app, with the same result. Likewise, Google Docs on my phone is able to display the font perfectly while opening the document.

I have also checked that the font I downloaded from Google Fonts is the .ttf file format, as I have learned that Microsoft Word may not be compatible with .otf font files. ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/office-suite-issues/fails-embedding-adobe-opentype-font )

I hope that I have provided enough information about the issue I'm facing, and that someone will be able to help me solve this issue.
