OneNote Sync Issues

I have been using the free version of OneNote for Windows 10 for the last few years and as such, it has been stored locally on my PC. I just purchased the full Office 365 individual license to be able to login to my account, sync my local OneNote with OneDrive so I can transfer my OneNote notes to my new Mac.

However, every time I try to sync the notebooks, the sync fails, and anytime I try to share the notebook, my OneNote crashes. I followed the steps of removing the entries in the Microsoft Credentials Manager, closing OneNote, and logging into my licensed account.

I received this message:

"There was an error communicating with the endpoint at ' https://docs.live.net/skydocsservice.svc ' The server returned HTTP status code '401 (0x191)' . The requested resource requires user authentication. The operator identifier is not valid.

Error: 0x803D0005"

It says I'm logged in to my Microsoft account, but I still cant do anything to transfer the information.

Can someone please help me find a way to link my locally saved OneNote to my account so I can transfer my information?

    Hello Jake B_414

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have an issue in regard to the OneNote synchronization fails. Let’s work together in finding the best resolution to this issue.

For me to better understand the issue, I’d like to ask a few questions:

    • What is the version of your OneNote?
    • Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the app?
    • Have you tried to check if there is any update for your OneNote app? You may install everything.

I would like to give you more information about this problem. However, we may first have to wait for the above response to ensure that we understand your concern correctly and that we can provide the necessary information.

We look forward to your next response.

    Regards,
