Where did the "replace direct formatting with style normal" go? I cannot resolve any inconsistent text in my document.

It was in the context menu but it disappeared. Tried to search for it in the context menu and in the options search bar but to no avail.

    Hi Omar160135!

In the newer versions of Word, the "Replace Direct Formatting with Style Normal" option has been replaced with a more streamlined approach to resolving inconsistent styles called "Clear Formatting."

To use this feature to resolve inconsistent styles in your document, follow these steps: * Select the text with inconsistent styles that you want to resolve. * Go to the Home tab in the ribbon. * In the Font group, click on the Clear Formatting button (it looks like an eraser icon).

This will remove all direct formatting from the selected text and apply the default style, usually "Normal."

If you want to use a different style to replace the direct formatting, you can use the "Styles" pane to do so: * Select the text with inconsistent styles that you want to resolve. * Go to the Home tab in the ribbon. * In the Styles group, click on the Styles pane button. * In the Styles pane, hover over the style you want to apply (e.g., "Normal") and click on the arrow that appears. * Select "Apply and Clear Formatting" from the drop-down menu.

This will replace the direct formatting with the selected style and apply it to the selected text.

Note that these steps may vary slightly depending on the version of Word you are using.

Kindly let me know, if you require additional assistance, I will be glad to help further.

    Best Regards, Shakiru

You can always (re-)apply Normal style to selected text paragraphs by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N.

However, I am not sure which specific command you are referring to. "Replace with Normal" doesn't ring a bell.

What you can do is enable the options in the Style Pane Options dialog box to show formatting in the Styles pane. You can then use the Styles pane to select similar formatting and modify it as desired. See the screen shot below.

An additional option is to use the Find & Replace dialog box to accomplish much the same thing. You can search for formatting and replace it with other formatting or have Word apply styles to the find results.

Hello, You surely understood my question but your solution is not accurate for my case. My text is a number list that cannot be corrected from the "Styles" pane.

The old solution was one-button-away kind of solution. My list is very huge and it takes 5-10 seconds each time I "Continue numbering" to remove the direct style.

Unfortunately, this is not my question. To further relate, this is a picture of what I mean.

    It was:

    1. Context list button.
    2. Meant to make text of certain type coherent.
    3. Button only appears when Word detects inconsistency of style.

Now, can't find it anywhere and the replacements are very poor in terms of usage. we are comparing a button click with a "solution for every situation" type of thing. I have text that is paragraph and another that is a list. the solution for the list is "continue numbering" meanwhile, solution for paragraph is to choose "normal" from "styles pane".

There is an option to mark formatting inconsistencies, which may be what you are looking for. It is found at File > Options > Advanced.

Recent versions of Word may have incorporated these settings with the Editor. I am not sure.
