Simple Markup view in Word Online

I want to be able to edit change-tracked documents in Simple Markup view in Word Online, as I do on my desktop. I found instructions for enabling this feature which say:

  1. In any Word for the web document, click the Review tab.
  2. Click the arrow to the right of the Markup view button, and then select Markup in margin (Simple Markup) from the list.

My Word Review ribbon doesn't have a Markup view button. It looks like this.

What am I missing here?

Microsoft 365 and Office | Word | For business | Windows

    Dear Jonathan Sachs,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft community. We are glad to help you.

Based on the official insider blog: Simple Markup view in Word for the web (office.com), we checked this feature on our side and we also miss the button with Word for web version.

This feature could be changed/removed or even not released to all insider users by the product team, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by this scenario.

We recommend you give a feedback based on this feature through the feedback feature: Your feedback makes Office better

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation! Hope you keep safe and healthy always.

    Sincerely,

    Sean | Microsoft Community Moderator

Thanks for your response. As far re as I know, we are not an insider site. I just searched for information about how to apply Simple Markup view, and found that article. I didn't notice anything that indicated it was insiders-only at this point, so I simply assumed it ought to work.

If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that if information about "insiders" features is publicly available at all, it ought to be more clearly marked. It would also help to make them less chatty and more concise, so that they don't appear to be written for lowest-common-denominator general users.
