Debian 11

VirtualBox 7.0

Win7Pro

I purchased MS 365 this morning and attempted to install the Office365 suite. I successfully downloaded the installer (OfficeSetup.exe), but when I attempted to run it (both as user and Administrator) I immediately received an error message: "Microsoft 365 and Office has stopped working."

Yes, thanks for following up. Since Win7 is on longer supported, rendering me unable to install MS 365, I had to download the ISO for Win10 Home. Reading through the VirtualBox manual I noted that one can install Windows directly from an ISO, which is what I elected to do, with no problems. I have a working Win10 installation and have successfully installed MS 365.

    Thanks again.

    Good morning, Alan.

Thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum. Please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well.

We understand that you're unable to successfully install Microsoft 365 on a Windows 7 Professional virtual machine.

As explained in our Windows 7 end of support and Microsoft 365 Apps article: "Microsoft 365 is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy, which requires customers to stay current as per the servicing and system requirements for the product or service. These requirements include using Microsoft 365 Apps on a Windows operating system that is currently in support.

Using Microsoft 365 Apps on older, unsupported operating systems may cause performance and reliability issues over time. Therefore, if your organization is using Microsoft 365 Apps on devices running Windows 7, we strongly recommend your organization moves those devices to Windows 11 or Windows 10."

Simply put, you need to be installing Microsoft 365 on a virtual machine that's running either Windows 10 or Windows 11. Windows 7 is just too old for it.

Feel free to reply to this thread if you need further clarification.

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Rue
