missing italic/bold, etc.

tried answering this on another thread i which was locked, so i could not.

this newer version: 16.43 (20110804), of word: controls such as 'italic', and 'bold' are missing, (on my imac 2011).

workaround: if you open 'word' and then go into, 'format'. scroll down to 'font'. (the first choice).

you can then use italic, bold, etc. on a selected word, etc.

seems odd that a new version of word wouldn't have these on the document for easy access.

You Mac is limited to running High Sierra, so the most recent version of Office you can run is 16.43. It sounds like Office didn't get installed correctly.

Unfortunately the Mac version is missing the Repair utility found in the windows version, so you'll have to try repairing by uninstalling and re-installing. To uninstall, please follow the steps on this page: Uninstall Office for Mac Then visitthis page to get a fresh copy of the 16.43 installer (dated November 20, 2020) and run it to reinstall Office. When you first use Word, you'll have to sign in to your Microsoft account to activate your installation.

You haven't indicated your version of macOS but if it's not earlier than 10.14.x [Mojave] your Office software is significantly out of date (by more than 2 years).

Use Help> Check for Updates in any of the Office programs. If you receive a notification that "All apps are up to date" it means that your version of Microsoft AutoUpdate [MAU] is equally obsolete so it can't recognize that updates are available. Include your macOS specs in a reply in order to get pointed in the right direction.
