Word document opening inside main program, How to make document pop out into actual Word Program?

Hi all! So we have a program at work we use and in that program we can generate calendars. The calendar pages/document open as a word document but inside the main program, ie: the Print option is the same option as in the main program, not all of the options for Word are present. I've been able to pop these documents out and open Word itself on 2 separate occasions on accident (one time a file hit the keyboard and yesterday I clicked something without knowing) but I can't not make this happen no matter what I do. Is there something to do to make the docs open in Word itself?

I am including a screen shot of what the docs look like inside the main program. Pertinent information has been removed for confidentiality purpose.

I think you're going to have to check the Help for the program that's opening the document, or failing that, ask whoever created that program, to find out what command or button makes the document pop out into Word. This is not a function of Word itself.

I'm not trying to open a new document, the document as in the image is already open. I'm just trying to get it to pop out from the program page it's in to opening actually in Word as a whole program and not a pop up. I can't just open what it is I'm viewing as when the job is done processing, it automatically opens to what the image is in the initial question. :-| Sorry if I'm not explaining it very thoroughly

Hi Jenni, I am not quite sure what you mean but try this>If you want to open a Word document that is already created>Open File Explorer and open the file from there. If you mean open a new Word document>Right click on the Desktop>Hover over>New>Click on Word.

Thank you for the reply. In a sense, yes, it is a different program that opens Word, but the Word it opens is inside a window for the other program yet it has most of the tile and toolbars for Word but not all. I'm just trying to figure out if there's some type of keyboard shortcut or something that will make it open in a new window as Word and not as a pop up so to speak.

    Dear Jenni_0211,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, it seems that you are trying to open a Word file from program in local word desktop app.

If the understanding above is right, generally, files can be opened in Word desktop app with below steps:

    1. Click the File tab.
    2. Click Open.
    3. Click Browse,
    4. To see only the files saved in the OpenDocument format, click the list of file types next to the File name box, and then click OpenDocument Text.
    5. Click the file you want to open, and then click Open.

For your reference: Use Word to open or save a document in the OpenDocument Text (.odt) format - Microsoft Support

Given this, please check if the files inside the main program can be opened via Browse in Word desktop app. Please also check if you can open the file in Recent files as you mentioned that you "open Word itself on 2 separate occasions on accident".

Hope the above can help. If not, considering that our category mainly focuses on general and built-in queries in Word, and you have mentioned that you are using "a program at work" and "Word document opening inside main program", we'd sincerely recommend you consult with other users in your organization or IT department who may have related experience.

If my understanding of the scenario is not consistent with yours, please feel free to point it out.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding! Have a good day!

    Sincerely,
