Excel for iPad creating duplicate documents in recent items

Hi,

as of yesterday Excel is creating duplicate documents in recent items. When I go to the cloud tab on Home page the files are showing correctly and there are no duplicates. This happened after editing some documents on my Macbook yesterday. I have checked One Drive and there are no duplicates there and all files are syncing correctly. I have also reset Excel for iPad and reinstalled it but this makes no difference. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a reason why this could be occurring? I would be grateful for any assistance you could provide.

I have posted a screen shot of the iPad.

Kind regards

Rod

    Hi,

I'm Sneha and I'd be happy to help you out with your question. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Please try following self troubleshooting steps to fix duplicate documents in the recent items list in Excel for iPad:

Update Excel: Ensure that you have the latest version of Excel for iPad installed. Visit the App Store and check for any available updates for Excel. Updating the app can often resolve known issues.

Check for duplicate files locally: Open Excel for iPad and navigate to the local storage area. Look for any duplicate files within the app. Sometimes, duplicates can be created due to syncing or saving issues. If you find any duplicates, delete them.

Clear Excel cache: Clearing the app's cache can help resolve various issues. To do this, go to the iPad's settings, locate the Excel app, and select "Clear Cache." Please note that the exact steps may vary depending on the version of iOS you're using.

Sign out and sign back in: Sign out of your Microsoft account within the Excel app and then sign back in. This process can refresh the connection and potentially resolve syncing issues.

Reauthorize OneDrive: Disconnect and reconnect the OneDrive integration within Excel for iPad. To do this, access the Excel app's settings, find the OneDrive integration, and revoke access. Then, sign in again to reconnect OneDrive.

Check file associations: Verify that the files you edited on your Macbook are correctly associated with Excel. If they are associated with another app, it might cause duplicate entries. Open the Files app on your iPad, locate one of the affected Excel files, and check its association. If needed, set Excel as the default app for opening such files.

Report the issue: If the problem persists, consider reporting the issue to Microsoft. You can provide feedback or seek assistance through their support channels, such as the Microsoft Office support website or community forums.

    Hi Sneha,

Thank you for replying to my post. I have tried all of your suggestions however the problem persists. I am on the latest available version of Excel for iPad and I also have the app on my iPhone 13 Pro. When checking the phone app it to is showing the same thing with duplicates in recent items. I have signed out of that and back in again but to no avail. The files are syncing with Excel on my MacBook and the recent items there are not showing the same issue. Would appear that it’s iOS related but had been working fine up to yesterday before I edited files on MacBook. iPad is also running the latest update.

    Kind regards

    Rod
