    Dear Ray Lavis,

    Good day.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

According to your description, initially I understand that you are using Microsoft 365 Business / Enterprise exchange online mailbox account services, if yes, may I please know do you have Microsoft 365 global admin privilege?

I am asking this because, if you are not Microsoft 365 global admin, you may need to contact them and check if they have made any custom retention policies and applied on your Microsoft 365 Business / Enterprise exchange online mailbox account.

Generally, retention policies are applied by creating retention tags, adding them to a retention policy, and applying the policy to mailbox users.

As Microsoft 365 global admin has rights to create retention tags and policies and they can apply that retention policy on users mailbox account.

Below are the official document for your reference:

    1. Create a Retention Policy in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn
    2. Apply a retention policy to mailboxes in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn

Note: End users need to contact Microsoft 365 global admin in their organization for further action. This above information is applicable for Microsoft 365 Business / Enterprise subscribers.

I would really appreciate your precious time and kind cooperation.

    Sincerely,
    Darpan

Depends on the mail provider, or if a Company system, the policies put in place by Admin.

Generally it would be unusual for a business to delete mail, archive yes. Are you sure you dont have a View/Filter set?
