Cannot Save any of my Excel Files

  1. open file
  2. routine edit file
  3. Hit save File
  4. Navigate to location
  5. Type new name
  6. Hit save

get error message:

" Errors were detected while saving F:\ blah blah blah.xlsm. Microsoft may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make repairs in new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

I cancel because when i hit continue it gives me another error:

"Excel encountered errors during save. However, Excel was able to minimally save your file to C:\Users\owner\AppDatta\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XL1480.xlb."

And finally:

It gives me a message that the file was a total loss and data and formulas could not be saved.

This turns out to be true because when i go to the file and open it it - all the data and formulas are gone.

I can open excel files and edit and use them but cannot save the result.

Because i am generating upload sheets - being able to save the data is kinda the point.

It took ten years to develop this spread sheet and it has always migrated to new versions of Excel/Windows without issue.

Windows 10 has rendered it UN-useable.

Can this be fixed?

BTW - the file still runs file on Windows 7.

Do I have to remove Windows10 and re-install Windows 7?

can i run Windows 7 virtually in my machine?

    Hi David

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Sorry for the trouble this might have caused. One possibility is that the file is corrupted or damaged. Another possibility is that there are compatibility issues between the version of Excel you’re using and Windows 10.

You may not need to remove Windows 10 and reinstall Windows 7. Instead, you could try running the file in compatibility mode for Windows 7 on your Windows 10 machine. This can be done by right-clicking on the Excel file, selecting “Properties,” then selecting the “Compatibility” tab and checking the box for “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and selecting “Windows 7” from the drop-down menu.

Alternatively, you could try repairing the file using the “Open and Repair” feature in Excel. To do this, open Excel, click on “File,” then “Open,” navigate to the file you want to repair, click on the arrow next to the “Open” button, and select “Open and Repair.”

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
