Go to File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type and clear the last check box, "Define styles based on your formatting".
Stop Word from adding new styles automatically
Using Microsoft 365. As I edit a document, new styles are added to the styles list.
I made sure the "Keep track of formatting" check box in the Advanced options is unchecked.
In the Styles options, I unchecked the three check boxes under "Select formatting to show as styles."
Still having the issue with new styles being added.

2023-01-05T17:20:07+00:00 Sure. I am not working with headings. I didn't notice the new styles at first so not sure where some of them came from. I have 3 that have hexadecimal names. I included a screenshot (below) of the properties of one of them. I use building blocks and after adding the text from the building block I modified a bullet in that text. Now I have a style with the name of the building block.

Are you running some type of add-in with Word?
