OneDrive - saving an excel with "Save" button

Hey,

I would like advice on an error when saving - I can't save files on Onedrive using the upper left "Save" button, it gives me the following message in the picture.

,,The file failed to upload because your changes could not be merged with someone else's."

However, I am not aware that I have the given file/files open on other devices, which would "block" it. It can only be saved by clicking on the X in the upper right corner - close the window and then clicking on save.

    Dear Christian,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in the Microsoft forum.

Is it possible that someone else edited this workbook at the same time?

When this message appears, your data is safe locally, but you can’t resume coauthoring until you resolve this error. To work around this:

    1. If you have any edits you don’t want to lose, select Save a Copy and save the file under a new name.
    2. Reopen the live document.
    3. Add back any changes that didn't make it to the server copy.

Note:You can also select all and copy, paste the document into a new window, and then selectDiscard Changes*. You can then add back any changes that didn't make it to the server copy.*

If the issue remains, please provide us with the following information for further troubleshooting:

    1. May I know if the workbook is shared with someone else?
    2. Where the workbook is stored, OneDrive for business or SharePoint online?
    3. Please provide the screenshot of Microsoft 365 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Word or Excel on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.

If my understanding above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that out.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Hey,

thank you for your quick answer.

No one else edited this workbook at the same time.

For the record, this error appears on all worksheets on Onedrive.

    On your questions:

    1. May I know if the workbook is shared with someone else? - These users have access above all files in Onedrive, the circled one it´s our restaurant account.

    Image

      2. Where the workbook is stored, OneDrive for business or SharePoint online? **It should be stored directly on Onedrive.**

      3. Please provide the screenshot of Microsoft 365 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Word or Excel on your system, click **File**>**Account**, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under **Product Information**.

Weird thing is, that if I close worksheet with upper-right "X" and then I click on Save, it works normally.

Yes it says ,,,,The file failed to upload because your changes could not be merged with someone else's." but file normally closes and saves all changes I made.

    Dear Christian Mašek

Thank you for your quick response and we also appreciate you spent your precious time doing the tests and providing the detailed screenshot and information to us.

Per your update, since you mentioned that this error appears on all worksheets on OneDrive, and no one edited this workbook at the same time. Given this situation, to confirm if the behavior is related to OneDrive or Excel desktop app, we would like to collect more information with you:

    • To narrow down if the behavior only happened in Excel workbook in OneDrive, can you do a test to check if other office document also has this problem? Such as Word document?
    • Do other users in your organization also experiencing the same behavior when they access these Excel files?
    • If it's convenient to you, can you move an Excel workbook to other location, such as SharePoint then to do a test to see the outcome?

Looking forward to your reply, please notice the above information is vital for us to further assist you, any updates please feel free to post back.

    Sincerely,

    • This problem appears only in Excel documents. But it appears only on computer at work. If I try to edit any Excel file from home or on laptop at work, it normally saves a file using "Save" button. So it seems problem is only on our computer at work. On other devices I have set "autosaving" (so it saves everytime I edit something), but I can not set it on our computer at work using manuals on internet.
    • When I edit it in browser (at sharepoint), it saves. When I open it to desktop app and edit it there, it doesn´t save using ,,Save" button.
    • As I wrote in first point - I can not turn on AutoSave in this version of Excel. On my laptop at home or on laptop at work when I edit any excel file, there is enabled autosaving. I read instructions how to enable it but I couldn't make it at work PC.
    • I did a test - I moved excel sheet from Onedrive to PC. There I had no problem with saving things. Then I moved it back to Onedrive and few minutes It worked (I believed I solved it). But after few minutes and tests It wrote an error again.

    Dear Christian Mašek

Thank you for your quick response again.

According to your update again, you mentioned that this behavior only happened in Excel on your work computer, to confirm if it's related to your Excel app on this computer or your tenant account, may I know if it's convenient to you to ask your other colleagues to sign in their account in Excel on this computer to see the outcome?

If the other colleagues can reproduce the same result as yours on your computer, this may be caused by the Excel app, please try the following steps to repair Excel client.

Besides, you mentioned that you can't turn on autosave on this computer, may I know can you see the autosave button in Excel?

What do you mean that you can't turn on the autosave feature? Does it no respond when you click it or other thing?

Welcome to update the latest situation to us, we'll help you all the time.

    Sincerely,
