PowerPoint doesn't have custom keyboard shortcuts, though there are third-party add-ins that make it possible.

As a workaround, you can add the Insert Text Box command to the Quick Access Toolbar, where it automatically acquires a numeric keyboard shortcut. If the command is at the 5th spot from the left, Alt + 5 will run it.

    1. In PowerPoint, choose File>Options>Quick Access Toolbar.
    2. Change the Choose command from dropdown to Insert Tab.
    3. In the left-hand list, scroll down to Insert Text Box and select it.
    4. Click on the Add>> button to add it to the QAT in the right-hand list. OK out. The icon is added to the QAT.

To see the keyboard shortcuts, hold down the Alt key for a couple of seconds. The key combination to insert a text box is Alt + N, then X.

Thank you so much for your answer!

I found out that for my powrpoint (maybe because it is in italian) the combination is Alt+C+AC

I hoped it could have been more straightforward, is there a way to set manually an easier shortcut?

    Hi,

thanks for the trick, it'll be very helpful!

I'd suggest a minor edit though, since

    1. A plus sign (+) in a shortcut means that you need to press multiple keys at the same time.
    2. A comma sign (,) in a shortcut means that you need to press multiple keys in order. I would suggest "Alt, 5" instead of "Alt + 5" will run it.

Thanks again for your answer : I will widely use (this feature of) the Quick Access Toolbar for now on!

    Best regards,
