Whenever I open a new workbook, the calculation mode defaults to Manual. I can reset the calculation mode myself for each spreadsheet, but I would like to know how to change the default to Automatic. Can anybody help?

File > Option >Formula > Calculation Options > Tick the Automatic.

In Microsoft Excel, all currently open documents use the same mode of calculation, regardless of the mode in which they were saved.

Snow, thank you for your message.

The problem is, when I close Excel and open it again, it defaults back to manual. This default setting is what I want to change. How do I do that?

    Regards

Based on my test, if you open one workbook and save the changes, it will continue that setting until another workbook with different settings.

    1.Test 1

    File 1 Manual.

    File 2 Auto

Open File 1 then open File 2 and click save, the File 2 will change to Manual.

    2.Test 2

    File 1 Manual.

    File 2 Auto

Open File 2 then open File 1 and click save, the File 1 will change to Auto.

    3.Test 3

    File 1 Manual.

Change it to Auto. Save and close. Reopen it. File 1 is still Auto.

Hope it helps. Feel free to share any update.
