I keep getting update errors, and repeated closing of Excel when I try to load a previous created speadsheet.

I recently had a crash. Since restoration, I have been getting an error when trying to load previously created workbooks. The first error is this one:

This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe.

I selected Don't Update.

If I do that, I get a Microsoft Error Reporting: "There was a problem with Microsoft Excel and we apologize for the inconvenience. Microsoft will attempt to recover your work. (Check box Recover Work and restart Excel). (I have the error file).

Excel then opens offering to open recovered workbooks. But it only opens to a blank workbook. Strangely these workbooks are NOT listed in the Previous workbooks list. When i try to load it manually everything just quits.

I have the error file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Excel. I have successfully loaded the workbook both into Numbers and to Google Docs.

    Hi

    Please let us know what version of Excel is involved. To find that information, use the Menu Bar and choose Excel > About Excel. If you are using the current update it should be 16.73, but whichever you have please let us know what it is.

    If you can copy the first 50 or so lines of the crash report, and paste that in with your reply, it might pinpoint the cause of the crash.

    In frustration, I delete all files on the computer with Microsoft in the file name, then reinstalled office. Excel is still giving me an "update" message, but at least the file loads. Here is the crash report... at least a few lines of it. Thank you for any information.
