iv'e tried repairing office 365, started in safemode on excel. The VBA editor only shows some very big chinese letters and that's it. i have been dealing with macros and VBA in inventor earlier. but i cant imagine that has anything to do with it. VBA editor in inventor is working normally.

thanks in advance.

Update: The editor works now. i have not tried it out yet but looking at this seems better. i deleted the whole VBA7.1 folder hoping it would regenerate on startup. this was not the case as the folder VB7.1 is still missing. but nonetheless the editor is working. i will see if the problem is gone. if anyone could confirm that it's okey to delete these files i would appreciate that.

    Dear Patrick Hall1,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

Based on your description, we understand that you are currently unable to function properly VBA. According to my research, inventor is a third-party app. So I want to confirm with you if it's a third-party app.

In my tests, it seems that the VBA editor opens normally:

Please check if there are any updates of Office. You can update your Office applications in the following ways: Open Excel -> File -> Account ->Update Options ->Update Now.

If your Office has been updated to the latest version, you can also try the following methods:

    1. Opening Office apps in safe mode to check whether there is an add-in or extension that may be causing a problem on startup.
    2. Performing a clean boot in Windows determine whether a background program is interfering with your Office application.

Trying the above steps can greatly help us reduce this phenomenon, thank you for understanding that sometimes the initial suggestion may not help you immediately, if you still experience this situation, please inform us of the following information:

    • The version information of Excel you are using (File - Account - version information)
    • Does this behavior occur in all workbooks?

    Sincerely,

    Tin | Microsoft Community Moderator

inventor is a modelling software that is stand-alone from excel, i can access excel through inventor. i assume there are some connections. but nothing that alters excels operability.

Updates for office is checked the way you described with no new updates.

opened excel in safemode as describe without success.

preformed a clean boot selecting away all MS-services and disabling all start-up apps in task manager, this gave no results.

i have reinstalled ms-office the problem persists.

    scanned for malware

we have to move forward on a different strategy.

    here is my version info : Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2212 Build 16.0.15928.20196) 64-bit

the behaviour occurs in blank workbooks, saved workbooks and downloaded sample projects from excel. so i think it's safe to say that it's global for excel workbooks.

i would like to add this picture as i as able to move the window yesterday.![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/1b3eebe7-0064-4448-8b04-4b0a0d779987?platform=QnA

Saw a different post on changing VBA language, and noticed that all the files are the same in all of the subfolders in VBA7.1.

    full path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7.1

Might this be the problem? the post says that 1033 is the english version and 2052 is chinise. and now that all of these folders contain the same information i suspect i need to replace them. the post mentioned .dll extensions but i cant find any of them in these folders.
