The stock data selection is missing from my data tab

I was in my finance class, and my teacher wanted to show us a new way of importing stock data. He showed us how to use the stocks function in the data type tab. However, when I attempted the same function, i couldn't find it. I spent the rest of the day trying to fix it. So far, I've added it through the customize ribbon function. That did not work, so I repaired the file, and unfortunately, that failed to solve the issue. The last solution I attempted was to remove office 365 from my laptop and restart it, followed by redownloading -office 365, only to see the point still existed.

    Dear Alonso_25,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

As per your description, it seems that Stocks function is missing from the Data Types tab in Excel on your Windows device. And you have tried adding thru customize ribbon and O365 uninstall and reinstall.

We've also done a quick test and we cannot reproduce a similar situation on our side with version 2111, version 2301 and Excel web app, below is a screenshot of our test for your reference:

    Excel web app:

    Excel desktop app:

If our understanding of the scenario above is not consistent with yours, please feel free to point it out. At meantime, would you please share some screenshots of the issue for a better understanding?

If the understanding above is right, and if you are using Office desktop app, we'd recommend you check if connected service is on

    1. In Excel, select File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
    2. Select Privacy Options > Privacy Settings.
    3. Select Turn on optional connected experiences.
    4. Select OK > OK > OK.

Please also sign out of office, remove the stored Credentials in the Credential Manager via opening Control Panel > Credential Manager > Manage Windows Credentials >Delete all Microsoft Officecredentials and sign back in to check the outcome.

If you are using Excel Online in browser, we'd recommend you try on another browser in-private with another network to check the outcome.

If the issue persists, we do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. We'd like to collect more information to better help you and do further troubleshooting:

    1. If you are using Office desktop app, please share your Office version with us by taking a screenshot from Excel > File > Account as shown below: Image
    2. If you are using Excel desktop app, will the same issue occur if you use Excel web app in browser or vice versa?
    3. What about the other users in your school? Do they encounter a similar situation in Excel on their device?
    4. Will the same issue occur if you use another device to check the outcome?
    5. Please also share your subscription info with us by sign your work or school account in View account > Subscriptions to take a screenshot as shown below: Image

We look forward to your reply. Thanks for your cooperation!

Hope you stay safe and healthy always.

    Sincerely,

    Rhoda | Microsoft Community Moderator

I turned on the optional connected experiences.

I also deleted all the credintials as instructed and signed back in.

    The version I'm running is : Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2301 Build 16.0.16026.20002) 64-bit

The stock data type works when I try to use the online version.

    Dear Alonso_25,

Thanks for sharing the updates and confirming the scenario with us. Please accept my apologize for the late reply.

As per the official article, the Stocks and Geography data types are only available to Microsoft 365 accounts or those with a free Microsoft Account. You must also have the English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese editing language added to Office Language Preferences.

For your reference: Excel data types: Stocks and geography - Microsoft Support

We'd recommend you check if above requirements meets in your Excel desktop app, for your reference: Add an editing or authoring language or set language preferences in Office - Microsoft Support.

Additionally, if it's convenient, we'd suggest you create a new Windows local account on his device, then log in Windows, check the issue happens or not. (You may need to install Office in the new account)

For reference: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows (microsoft.com)

This way can help you determine if the issue only appears in a specific Windows user profile.

If issue persists in the new account, we totally understand the frustration and apologize all the trouble caused by this problem. For further investigation, if you are a Microsoft 365 admin, we sincerely recommend you help the user create a support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>New Service Request as mentioned in Get support | Microsoft Docs.

The support team has higher permission to remotely help you investigate the issue and also collect logs when issue happens. They have more resource and the correct escalation channel for this case. This is also the more efficient way in handling this kind of issue for you.

For your reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin

Thanks for your patience and effort so far. We appreciate your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Rhoda
