I need to know how I can protect Excel file to prevent users from copying the contents.

Can I achieve this using DLP policy? or which other possible ways can I use?

    Dear respected Sir D,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, I'm sorry and I'm afraid to say that there is no DLP policy to achieve your requirement. But you may protect shared Excel file from copying the contents using protect sheet feature. Protect sheet will let user read contents but cannot select and copying.

    Here are the steps:

1.Open your Excel file in Excel desktop client app and select the data cell and right-click on cell formatting>select protection tab>check/tick the "Locked" column.

2.Click on Review tab>protect sheet>under protect sheet dialog box only check/tick the "Selected unlocked cells" option and user password to protect the Excel sheet.

    3.Then share file to users.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
