Excel - sum of cells, skipping every other sum combination

Question

I'm looking for a formula that would assist in adding cells in a unique way. I have a long column full of numbers where I would, for example, need the sum of A1 and A2, A3 and A4 but not A2-A3 (essentially skipping over each middle sum). Although simply creating a sum and ignoring every other cell would be ok, it's adding additional clutter that is unneeded. Any help is much appreciated.

=IF(MOD(ROW(),2)>0,A1+A2,"")

It sums A1+ A2 。skip A2+A3 。A3+A4
